ATL Heat

Monday, January 25, 2010

It's been a good run.

I'm ending the ATL Heat Blog. When I first started posting about things around Atlanta, art, tech, etc and then later exclusively about Hip Hop in 2007 there weren't many, if any, blogs doing this. Now there are several. I was also unemployed at the time and had plenty of time to scoop the existing blogs about stories, events and content.

That free time no longer exists.

I still get good traffic here, honestly I keep up a few sites now and this is just extra work. Blogger doesn't have the options I like--and where those options are available, they are far too much work to use.

I could move to Wordpress, but Wordpress is honestly five times worse. It just looks pretty. Coding all day? No thanks.

Many of you still frequent the archives quite a bit. So I'll be keeping that part of the site up.

Until then, much of the same content you were accustomed to seeing here will be mixed in with other things I find interesting in arts, tech and politics here: www.tumblr.dominickbrady.com

Cool Runnings.

Or don't, but don't let him pop it on you. Yelawolf. 'nuff said. Motion family killed this one.

At the Playground

Haha I like this. An old fashioned posse cut from ATL blog Greedmontpark's Playground Vol 1. featuring: Sean Falyon, The Love Crusader & Tuki (from Hollyweerd), Mach 5, Young TRIMM, MumsFP and a few cats I've not heard of before this video:

Young Lyxx, Trayon Pass & Sambah Sillah

I normally don't do this, but...

More times (I'm Jamaican, we say that)...more times I don't post unpolished stuff. I really hate even posting "freestyles" which has become all the rage. If I can't verify it wasn't written, I'm not posting it. This isn't a freestyle. It's a rough video.

I don't like the entire song. The first verse is not good. It's not BAD, but it's not very decent, either. The second? A cat named Reese, transplanted from L.A., kills it. I've played it 3 times since I just heard it and I'll be playing it again.

The video isn't done, it isn't polished, it's hard to look at at times because it's shaking, etc...feels like a street freestyle, which in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I'm now looking for more from solo stuff from Reese. If it's all on this level, he's got a new fan.

There's more than one way to skin an app.

I get promotional emails all the time. For this blog in particular, though, I'm not really into poo-pooing whomever sends something to my inbox. You'd be shocked at what I either ignore, pass up on, or laugh to myself about. My relationship with you, my audience, is important to me. I'm not going to lie to you for online "props" This, however, is different. And it's not different because my friend Spree is involved. He's been involved with other "promotions" I didn't tell y'all about because...well, I thought they were kind of tired. *shrugs* I've played with this app myself and it is actually fun to fool around with a bit. When Spree was shooting his commercial for this Sprite. It was right before he left for NYC and it's when I made this piece about his leaving Atlanta for Creative Loafing:

Spree Wilson taking a chance in move to NYC from FireBrand on Vimeo.

Here's the lowdown on the app: anyone can create an original track by mixing beats with a simple tap, shake and tilt on their iPhone or iPod touch devices. It's that simple.

download the app for free at the iTunes store: http://bit.ly/5Mr636. You’ll automatically get one track (The Spark) but you’ll be able to unlock more tracks, including Dallas Austin’s exclusive song, by simply texting ZOOZ + the code found under any 20oz Sprite cap to 777483 (SPRITE).

The good people at sprite have blessed this humble blog with a key to more songs to play with on the app...

Via K. over at Sprite:
..But for you, I’m leaking a “cheat” code that will get your readers one free beat – enter SPRITE as the code and you’ll get Dallas Austin’s exclusive track for free!

I think this is interesting because artists need to find indirect models to getting paid for their content. This is just one more way.

So...check out the ZoozBeat jawn and tell me what you think. Are there other good free beat making apps I need to be aware of? A guy at the radio station has a REALLY cool one for his Droid. I need a Nexus One BADLY. I'm on Tmobile and plan to get one. Y'all know I'm a Google and Apple Geek.
