Friday's = No Doze/New Music

Wow. I got some dope shit for y'all this Friday, yo. It's EARLY here. I just got back from the Collective Efforts/Floyd Da Locsmif/Supatition/Kaze/Audubon Society show over at the Earl earlier this morning...I missed the show :0(.

What can I say? Working nights sucks, man. Especially for weekday shows, but I love what I do, and I love the time shift I do it in so, fuck it.

I did have a chance to run into H20 (Of Mass influence, and Y'all so stupid...never heard of them? Get up on your ATL Hip hop history. Cats like these folks and Parental Advisory, Kilo, etc? They made it all possible).

I also met J Dilla's Uncle. How cool is THAT!?! I hear he's working with Dillon and H20 on some stuff. Well be still my fucking heart. I can't wait to see what they got in store for us.

OKAY. Enough about my night. Let's talk about that new-new. This week we gonna talk about Nerdkween who isn't really a new artist, but dammit I'm pretty sure she's new to you...We got Dillon, Neslee, and more...

I thik we'll start off like we did last week- with the sole out-of-towner: The Smile Rays. Hailing out of North Florida, The Smile Rays are comprised of Bat Sauce on the beats, Therapy of the AB's (formerly known as Asamov), and singer Daisey. Quite frankly this shit is ill. There is just no other way around it. As usual I'm not going to TELL you how to feel about the music. Judge for yourself. Big up to their being signed to Rawkus 50, btw. Do the damned thing.

"Toast"

Now that we got the formalities out of the way, let's talk about ATLANTA. Tori Alamaze (pronounced Al-lah-mah-zay) is flames, family.

You've heard from this Radiculture signed artist- or at least her hit song "Don't Cha" before. The only problem is that you heard the Pussy Cat Dolls singing it. Cee-lo sold the rights to the song to the long legged vixens but Tori made the song sing, shawty.

In case you haven't heard, Cee-lo has a new label called Radiculture based here out of Atlanta, and she is just one of Radiculture's new artists that we will be profiling in the coming weeks. She's fine, she's talented...she's originally from Detroit, but we'll forgive her for carpetbagging. Oh yeah, and she's into...

"Freaky Boys"

Next up? This cat...Lmao. This cat is RAW. Neslee is just raw. I could go on and on, and speak on the brother but why? I'll let him speak for him self since he does it so-so well.

"Downstairs"

Back to Soul music, tho. I'm sure you've heard of Keri Hilson or maybe you haven't.

This Atlanta based singer is doing some really big things. I mean, she was on Diddy's Press Play album. She was featured on Timbaland's Shock Value (which might be a good or bad thing depending on which way the wind is blowing) morever, she's just damn fine. This is becoming a recurring theme with ATL's sultry sirens, they gorgeous. I mean what do you want me to do? LIE? Ignore it? This is a BLOG, son. I'm fittna be real as shit. She is damn beautiful. I honestly don't know what kind of radio spins she is getting beacuse I don't listen to the radio (I'll give you my WCLK rant later) But in any case check her music. This song is featuring Snoop Dog...

"Happy Juice"

DILLON. (DY-LAWN) lol. Wow. This cat is good peoples. I mean, his energy is just like pure artistry. You have GOT to love Dillon.

Dillon is one half of the critically acclaimed Intellekt & Dirty Digits. These Florida Transplants were doing their thing last year getting artist of the week nods at SPIN MAGAZINE, and even finding love on Okayplayer.com getting 4 afros (which is a feat itself). Well, the group has dissolved and we are left with just good ole Dillon.

He's blessed ATL already with a mixtape called Un-Cut. You can pick this up at his shows which are frequent or on his myspace. In fact, the next show is THIS UPCOMING SATURDAY over At Apache Cafe He'll be playing with Euguene IV, Buff1 and Aloe Blacc What has to be appreciated about this mixtape is that Dillon did MOST of the production, scratching and nearly all of the MCing himself. It's a great peice of work that includes earlier works with Therapy of Asamov/The Smilerays and The Audubon Society as well as Collective Efforts, etc....

It's just a great flavor of music, check this choice cut-

"Me, You, and a Bottle of Merlot"

Man, Nerdkween aint really new, yo. This sista has been doing her thing in the A for a minute.

But aside from my Low-fi and Electronica heads, she's new to nearly everyone I talk to so I decided to include her here. This jawn is a live recording. It speaks for itself.

"If"

Lastly, I'ma speak on Supreeme. Remember I mentioned them Last Friday as part of that art scene movement? Well, these cats have a more street sound than many of the artists in that scene. Shit is aiight, tho.

Check this jawn they got off last year's album...

"Supply and Demand"

In point of fact, you can download their entire last album on their Website HERE.How kind of them!
And with that? I'ma holla at ya'll later this evening, God willing. I got the weekend off this week so I can catch the Buff1, Aloe Blacc, Eugene IV, Dillon show.
I hope to see y'all there this upcoming saturday. Later today we gotta talk about how John Blaze this Pharoah Monch is, and talk about some more ATL music. I also want to delve into some stuff I seen in the news that is on my mind...

Peace.

It's Monday. That means more Moral Chicanery!

This is Episode #4. Bison and I talk about Wolfowitz, Immigration, and jumpoffs/freaks/bustdowns and their function. Why? Because we are pigs.

For some reason my podcast service is not uploading, so a zshare file is a temporary fix...

We also talked about Liddell Getting his ass whipped last night, and on other sports topics as well as Ceelo's new Record label BUT my dumbass somehow deleted those parts of the conversation. I'm a tool. I did however provide y'all a link to the Liddell fight in my attempt to make nice. Forgive me.

Well...I promised to talk about Atlanta a taste...

lol. Funny. I used to do a post on a few prominent Internet message boards called "A taste of Atlanta". Loved to do it. I'd compile about 40-50 artists per post and just give one mp3 of their music to the public for sampling. Why? Because I love this city.

I mean just look at it. Aint it the picture of beauty?

Anyways, before I get into ATL based artists and what they are getting into, I think I'ma mention a few dope jawns going on next month in the city. I'm leaving out prolly 99.9% of all the happs, but half the fun is finding these jawns, so I'ma leave the rest to y'all.

Lemme start by saying I forgot to include the living legends, 8ball & MJG. For this past Saturday over at Sugar Hill. My bad.

Now that we got that bidness out the way, a lil Nelly never hurt nobody.

Peep the Canuck at the Fox Theatre June 1st to kick off a big music month.

Need something beefier, Venisonier (that just can't be a real word)?

DEERHUNTER. A local band that's doing some big things is playing Whirlyball up in Roswell. Lol. That shit is hilarious to me. I grew up in Roswell. Whirlyball, son?

Fellow Atlantans Snowden is opening for Kings of Leon on June 1st as well at The Tabernacle. Normally Kings of Leon would get top billing, but not on this blog. Snowden is from ATLANTA.

June 2nd is a muthafucker, tho. Straight up. Have you heard of Sol.illaquist of Sound? Well, if you haven't their live show is dope.

That man u see going like mad at the MPC? That's Da Vinci. The man is a dynamo. It doesn't stop there with Solilla. They have uplifting, refreshing lyrics, and a songtress on 'em hooks. Peep them at The Drunken Unicorn Show starts about 8ish which is dope, because that gives u a chance to peep this man:

Sage Francis will be playing the masqerade 'round 'bout 9ish. That give you just enough time to peep Sol.illa and DASH up ponce across to East Atlanta and peep Sage Francis.

Not in the mood for underground hip hop? Fine. How about catching THE HOTTEST Soul Sensation?

Miss Janelle Monae will be touring to promote her debut album :: Metropolis, Suite I of IV: The Chase :: Coming ...She kicks it off at Atlana's Legendary Apache Cafe on June 2nd as well.

If that's not enough, 99x is having it's "Big Day out 2007". Artist like Cake, and Interpol will be playing. Cake and Interpol. Need I say more? I didn't think so.

You don't want to fuck with music? You been downloading all week and can't stomach one more quarter note? Comedy could be the remedy. Bruce Bruce is going to be in "town"...

If you can call Mableton in town. Big Bruce is playing Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. If u need marta? You'll need a prayer.

Aint that alot of shit already? I'm tired already. I'll take us all the way to the ides of June and leave the rest for another blog entry. I aint getting carpal tunnel for y'all. Y'all don't even leave comments. lol.

Moving on...

Tool will be playin the Gwinnett Center Arena June 4th. Guess who else will be in town?

El-p will be playing Lenny's with Hangar 18 Opening up.

Speaking of Hangars and other weird shit, eyedrum will be having an installation which actually closes on June 9th featuring Danny Paulette. If you haven't been by eyedrum, do yourself a favor.

On the art tip, MODA's new installation will be open and available for the public June 6th, peep that as well if you have a minute.

June 7th Le Castle Vania will be spinning at The Drunken Unicorn

Dillon Maurer. What can I say? This is Atlanta's hope right here, yo. This goes beyond hip hop, beyond the underground, beyond simple shit like that. This kid is the truth. If you've never seen him perform? Shoot yourself. If you don't have his mixtape, find a way to cop it. I don't even care if you download that shit (if you can find it, more power to you).

This cat is the hardest working man in Atlanta Hip Hop, and he's the future. He'll be playing Apache Cafe June 9th. And guess who he's brining with him? Aloe FUCKING Blacc (Aloe Blacc), and Buff-MUTHERFUCKING-1 (Buff1).

Let me say this VERY clearly to you so you don't misunderstand me. This will be the best show all fucking year . I promise you that shit. Aloe Blacc tore the stage down at the 2006 CMJ in New York for the Stone's Throw Anniversary jump off.
Buff1? Shit. Hottest album in the streets. If you don't know, you gonna find out- don't be all late and shit. You heard here, but I hope u aint heard it here first.

Fall out boy will be playing over at Hifi Buys Ampitheatre June 14th, BUT...

lmao! YES!

FEIST IS COMING!!!

Feist will be in the A playing with Grizzly Bear over at Variety Playhouse

I'll be back at some point later today with updates on local acts. I aint forget.

Peace.

I keep getting questions about this mixtape...

Dj Unknown's upcoming mixtape. Some great folk are going to be on this jawn. I really can't wait till we get this jawn done. At the time when I approached Dj Unknown about this project it really seemed like mixtapes- especially one like THIS which is going to be all original material was that NEXT shit for the left of center movement.

I mean, if radio aint playin our shit. And if it's illegal to podcast the shit (yeah right...check out my Moral Chicanery podcast, btw)

then fine, cus word of mouth is a muthafucker. So are the zines and websites/blogs that talk about the good shit, but it's alotta holes 'n cracks in those models. There are folk that don't pick up URB or Southeast performer , surf the net, or that don't be out every weekend yet they still want to enjoy good music. I think this mixtape will help fill those gaps. If you haven't heard past Dj Unknown mixtapes, check out the NorthernArc myspace and download the free jawns.

By the way, another cat in the ATL is doing sumin similar- the legendary Dj Mafioso. Maf been doin his thing for a minute, and if u know of ATL based Binkis Recs, then u know he's their DJ. If you haven't picked up La Bodega Vol. 3, you behind.

Pick that shit up tommorow. Hit his myspace for that.

But yeah, back to my rant....Nah, fuck a rant. Tell you what...

Make sure you are at that CE show next week. Kaze is bananas. I'm hearing wonderful things about Supastition and Floyd The locsmith...and Audubon society? Shit. Come on now, folks.

Kaze. IF you out there, get at me about this Dj Unknown mixtape.

okay, okay. you want hints on who is on this jawn? Fine.

I'll give you some spoilers on who is scheduled to be on this jawn:

Buff1
Stacy Epps
Jermicide
Don Will from Tanya Morgan
Dillon Formerly of Intellekt & Dirty Digits
Lerhaun
Kelita
Black Milk
Clan Destined
Anonymous
Ricky Raw
Smalleyez

and more... Stay Tuned.

It's still early. We aint even got a name for the shit yet. Some tracks is in, tho and I gotta say them shits is fiya. Look for that shit to be out early August.
