What y'all getting into this weekend?

F*CK YESS!!! Tonight catch LeCastle Vania doing his thing at The Drunken Unicorn. for the low-low. If you like electronica and dance/club music this should be the spot tonight. I gotta work, tho so I'ma miss it. :o(

Of course y'all know the First Friday's Jump off is going down over at Sugar Hill this Friday. The Black Bill Gates and The Audubon Society on the one's and two's.

Also on Friday you can peep the Dub sounds of ATL's Suntoucher over at Apache Cafe. If you haven't seen them perform live, you are missing out. Should be a dope experience. Get there early, then jet over to get FUXKD up down at Sugarhill.

On Saturday at Apache you can also catch Kelly Love Jones, Tommy Bottoms 'n 'em. For Twisted Tounge. If you aren't in the mood for Spoken Word you could always get some great Rock music in your life. Deerhunter is playing the Earl this Saturday. They always put on a great show. Should be fantastic.

Got a mind for something different this weekend? Why not shoot over to the Rialto Downtown and treat someone to the Sam Cooke Story. It's a musical on the life and times of Sam Cooke detailing his biography, music and untimely death. Sounds interesting.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. The Sloppy Seconds party CONTINUES (can you believe it?) this Friday (tommorow) With the Decatur Social Club Klever will be spinning along with a mystery guest DJ over in Decatur at Club Azul. Wow. "The party don't stop." (c) Dj Variable.

Then of course you have your normal weeklies going down at MJQ, Halo, The Royal, Django, Apache, etc...

That's about it for this weekend. I'll catch y'all with any updates as the come available. Meanwhile, you are sure to hear this Gorilla Zoebumping in the streets. This isn't brainiac music, it's club music. Don't hate on me for liking to see 'em drop it like it's hot. I'ma man, dammit.

Debauchery.

That's what went down on the eve of July 4th @ MJQ thanks to the Sloppy Seconds Anniversary jumpoff. It was crazy. Venue was packed out, DJ was on point. Drinks and flesh were strewn about the place. It was easy to catch Vertigo. Impossile to know which way was up or down. Thank God for The Midnight Socialite who happily documented the event with the ill photog. It was a party for the ages
Speaking of Debauchery you can expect more of it at the Jumpoff this Friday.
FUXKD is the Brainchild of Former F'in Socialite Ian Ford. On first Fridays FUKXD features none other than The Audubon Society.
The Audubon Society might be the most versatile DJ's in Atlanta. Highly slept on, but not for much longer. Dj Variable and Mr. Mind will have y'all dropping it like it's hot on the Dancefloor. Did I mention they have a special guest this Friday? None other than the Black Bill Gates. He might be the illest street DJ in Atlanta. I know y'all have seen BG on Rap City.
He's got quite an extensive musical vocabulary. You might see him play just about anything, but I think you can bet on some of this:

More to come about this weekend tomorrow...

What are y'all doing this weekend?

Underground Atlanta Tonight? The magificent returns. He'll be playing at MOTION. If you don't have fun at a Jazzy Jeff party, you're just not trying. The man puts it down. Period. It should be a blast. Wow. The Underground is going to be JUMPING tonight. Two fresh ass parties. Sol Fusion and FUXKD goin be off the chain.

If you didn't know, Kid Capri will be at Compound tonight. Two of the best Dj's in the game are at it tonight. Tough choice, honestly. I guess this one comes down to crowd. Do you feel like an AG party or a J. Carter Party? Do you live closer to midtown or downtown? Do you want to check out other parties nearby? Those are the questions you gotta ask yourself because you honestly can't lose based on the Dj's themselves.

Want to do something off the beaten path? Go to Hammond's house tonight and peep ATL's Kevin Spears. He's playing the Hammonds House museum from 7-9pm and he's going to do it with his instrument of choice the ancient, African kalimba. The kalimba was popularized by Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire in the 1970s. *Shrugs* It's different, right? Can't go wrong with some Jazz. Warning, tho. He can get gospel on you right quick so if Religion/Gospel aint your thing? You might wanna think that over for a sec. $15 is the damage.

At the Aquarium tonight Local Jazz Artists are getting down for some music & nature fusion type steez. Good jazz and penguins, son? I'm saying. It's expensive, tho. Not for us jazz lovers on a budget with a price point of $20. For that, you can just skip on down to Sugar Hill and get FUXKD up...

Not in that Sort of mood? Want a party with some hip hop flavor? How about free food, y'all like free food? You don't like free music too, do you? Free admission is nice too, if you can get it. Tell you what... Clan Destined is having their Rawkus Records EP release party over at El Bar. El Bar? What the fuck is EL Bar? Well, it's "The Bar" right behind El Azteca on Ponce. It literally shares the same parking lot. Just walk behind El Azteca and look for a large drunk Jamaican. El Bar is a nice lil joint with cheap swill and a friendly owner. Smack him on the head for me when you see him. Sike. I don't know him like that, but still. Smack him anyway. Do it for the sport of it and let's see what happens. Life is short.
Rooney is in town. Yay. Some feel good music. I can't be mad at that. They'll be playing the Variety Playhouse.
I might venture by there. To be honest, I'm very tired. Been either working, studying or playing for like a month and half str8. I guess I'm getting old.
I'm going to check out Clan Destined and FUXKD for sure, tho.

Not a whole lot else going on this weekend. Of course you have your standards:

- Decatur Social Club at Azul tonight
- Afro Beat over at Apache with Mausiki Scales
- The Royal should be jumping with an F'in Sociliates Jammy Jam
- FFX at Apache
- Face off Fridays at MJQ
-Angie Stone at the Tabernacle with Jon B.

Slow weekend in the A for the fly shit, if you ask me. There are also the regular parties all over the city with wack ass dress requirements and drink requirements and shit like that too, but you don't come to this blog for that, do you?

Sugar Hill has some jawns going on, tho. For my House and Soul heads it's going down at Sugar Hill on Saturday and Sunday night. If you love Soul and you've been in Atlanta for at least 10 years you respect Ken and what he brough to the city, RIP. The man changed the musical tastes and scene here. They are throwing "The House that Ken Built" on Saturday. Be there if you can. Should be dope.
