Interesting Thursday....
I hate cold weather. I particularly hate cold weather when I've gotten used to warm weather. At least I wasn't the only one in a foul mood today. Our evening started off rather slowly. The wife and I decided to attend the First Thursdays Downtown Art Walk like we usually do, only this time we were accompanied by her College roommate. I do love company and good company is even more fun, so we had a great time.
What always helps a great time is great wine. Paige Harvey's studio had some marvelous Australian wine from Alice White called Lexia. Wow. I'm sort of a red wine kind of guy, but this white wine was so sweet. Never let anyone tell you that bargain brand wines are bad. If you know what you are looking for you can find a nice $30, $40 or even $7 bottle of wine. Our visit at Paige Harvey's studio was great. I enjoy talking to her and this time we met her mother! That was so much fun. We also met her dog and after he took a moment to warm up to us he was as sweet as can be. Most of the other exhibits we managed to make it to were pretty much exactly the same as they were last month.

We were getting bored and I had escaped to my iPod as well as the pages of my Byers & Barre-Despond design book when my wife suggested we go to a gallery called "Context". I've never heard of this place before although she insists that we've talked about it several times. We arrive and I'm simply blown away. The very pieces I'm looking at in my B&B design book are in front of my eyes in living color. Amazing. Simply Amazing. I didn't know we had an antique/design furniture studio/gallery here in Atlanta. Not only do we have one, we have one of the nation's best.
Here I am perusing Moco Loco and bonluxat once a week when I have this resource at my fingertips here in Downtown Atlanta. For shame. Marcel Breuer, the man who designed the very chair I was looking at in my Design book just happened to design the Atlanta Central Library we had just left and I could actually TOUCH one of his beautiful chairs. I was beside myself. One of the friendly curators, Jeff and I talked about furniture design and their work there for what seemed like forever but it must have just been about 20 minutes. I was so excited. I can't wait to go back. It will be VERY soon.
We closed the night at Beleeza in Midtown. Beleeza is a Brazilian restaurant located at Juniper and 8th street. We didn't order any food. I read a review from The Blissful Glutton that wasn't favorable and we didn't want to spend a great deal of money. I had a Sweetwater 420 and an Acerola Soda. Sam had a very nice Merlot but the name escapes me. What's nice is that the floor manager seemed to know his stuff. When I inquired about the wines he knew when they had been opened. I was tempted to try a Riesling but he said it was corked. They had opened it yesterday and put it in the fridge. Yeah...the fridge doesn't help much, from what I understand. So I passed and stood with the home team by having a local brew in 420. Anyway, we were there to take in the sound styling of one Mr. Mind. Bossa Nova was on the menu and the man didn't disappoint. I always enjoy hearing Mind 1 aka Mr. Mind do his thing, but especially when he gets to stretch out his talents abit and show us his musical palette. I thought about going to Compound tonight for the "This is the A" show, but I'm tired. Time for an early bed.
