I'll house you.

While I'm here I might as well plug my boy Small Eyez performing at the Apple Store in Perimeter Mall for FREE with the Radiant Kids. I will be taking the North-line out there to support, no doubt. Should be a lot of fun.

My crew is wild nice. (c) Talib Kweli
Yes, he's my friend. Again, I'm friends with more than a few artists in Atlanta. That's part of the reason I started this blog- because it was a slap in the face to Atlanta artists when people said disparaging things about the city as a whole without taking into account it's history, culture and ALL the genres of rap and Hip Hop here.Having said that, the Sean Bell murder by the NYC police is a tragedy. As a black male I've also dealt with police brutality personally and sat by helplessly listening to my baby brother recant horror stories of his own. The fact that these "law-men" were declared not guilty is even worse. I didn't post about it here because between that and all the other racist bullsh*t in this country today I just don't want to think about it. Smalleyez made a song that captures that frustration in a beautiful way. I was going to wait to post this song. He let me hear it before he posted it anywhere. I loved it back then. But I wanted to wait to put it on Grits 'n Gravy 14.5. Since it looks like life is getting in the way, I'ma just go ahead and post the mp3 because I'm not going to get that mix done until LATE tonight, it seems.
Enjoy this. This is what great Hip Hop sounds like. Yes, he jacked this beat, but that's also a part of Hip Hop mixtapes. Get over it. I also hear there will be a remix with some another friend of mine ATL MC Spree Wilson in the very near future. Stay tuned.

Prescription filled.
With cosigns from Atlanta's Creative Loafing, and DJ Fudge folk are starting to wonder who this upstart is. Well, let me first disclose that Small Eyez is a friend of mine. We met at random events around the city and found out we both attended school at the AUC. That's right, he's another AUC born musical product. Hailing from Dayton, Ohio originally he's been in the Morehouse poetry and Hip Hop scene for the past for years and has put down roots in Atlanta. If you like lyricism, if you like concepts, you'll like his music. If you're sick of tired live shows, he's got the cure. Nearly every song has a fresh concept and his lyrical skills aren't to be questioned. You might be more familiar with his blog Che Sing the Cool, but now he's coming on as an MC in the ATL scene. I don't randomly cosign people on this blog- even if I'm cool with them. Truth is that nearly everyone I know is an artist in some capacity. Actually, EVERYONE I know is an artist. Wow. I didn't even notice at that first. Weird. If you have a chance, pick up his EP 2morrow at one of his live shows. Haven't caught him live yet? Djangos - May 10th
Lenny's - May 30th
Cenci - TBA
Smith's Olde Bar- June 10

It's raining and I'm in the spirit of giving, so...
Here are a few mixtaps featuring ATL artists, Artists that have performed in Atlanta recently, or that are coming soon to the city. These are all free and are being given away by the artists themselves. If you haven't been to their shows chances are you didn't get to pick these freebies up. Well, we believe in second chances around these parts. Enjoy...
