ATL Heat

It was a great time. Fuggin Awesome 5 was fun.

With word on the street being that the Drunken Unicorn has let the Hip Hop community know they no longer want our business and that live performances must end by 12:30 am in a city where nobody leaves their house before midnight, Fuggin Awesome still endures.

The last minute move to Lenny's was a success. Killer Mike performed and apologized to the fans for all the hoopla concerning the media-flamed feud between himself and Big Boi of Outkast. That was refreshing. When asked about the feud Killa Kill from Adamsville said with a smile, "We'll get it right." Good to hear.
The music was eclectic Friday night. ATL's soul artist Divinity, Yelawolf, Dixie Mafia, The Wheeler Boys and Hollyweerd all performed. Joe Scudda from the Justus League (and a Georgia Boy by birth) was on hand- in fact he brought Hollyweerd on stage to perform with him. They weren't on the bill for the night. That was a lovely suprise. A new cat I haven't heard from before came out called Shawwty Fat. He's from Alabama and I'll be damned if I wasn't SHOCKED to hear this dude come up there and spit. I wasn't expecting that kind of flow. I wasn't. He can really put it together. His act can best be described as a lyricist's lyricist over Down-south bass beats.
The Audubon Society did their thing. They had me dancing like a drunken fool to their Dj sets. Again, it was a great deal of fun. I always have fun at this event. Oh, and the ladies? My goodness. They were looking special Friday night. Wow. Feel free to check out the pics. I didn't get any shots of Yelawolf, Divinity or Killer Mike. Why? MY BATTERY DIED AGAIN!!! I can't tell you how frustrating that is ATL Hip Hop group Proton was in the house as was soul act Ruby Velle of The Soulphonics

I've got two of these. Neither one is older than 4 months. They both do not function. Why? Because they are fragile. The prongs that extend to charge the batteries are easily broken- a prick with your fingernail can break them off. I've bought 3 batteries and now 3 chargers because of this faulty piece of equipment. I could go to best buy and complain, but why? It isn't their fault. The customer reviews for this device are misleading. Just don't buy it. For 5 more dollars you can get what is considered the "lesser" charger- lesser because it doesn't come with a car kit. It seems to be much more durable. I've lost so many picture opportunities because of this damned thing. I could scream, but who would hear me? Who would care?

Debauchery.

That's what went down on the eve of July 4th @ MJQ thanks to the Sloppy Seconds Anniversary jumpoff. It was crazy. Venue was packed out, DJ was on point. Drinks and flesh were strewn about the place. It was easy to catch Vertigo. Impossile to know which way was up or down. Thank God for The Midnight Socialite who happily documented the event with the ill photog. It was a party for the ages
Speaking of Debauchery you can expect more of it at the Jumpoff this Friday.
FUXKD is the Brainchild of Former F'in Socialite Ian Ford. On first Fridays FUKXD features none other than The Audubon Society.
The Audubon Society might be the most versatile DJ's in Atlanta. Highly slept on, but not for much longer. Dj Variable and Mr. Mind will have y'all dropping it like it's hot on the Dancefloor. Did I mention they have a special guest this Friday? None other than the Black Bill Gates. He might be the illest street DJ in Atlanta. I know y'all have seen BG on Rap City.
He's got quite an extensive musical vocabulary. You might see him play just about anything, but I think you can bet on some of this:

More to come about this weekend tomorrow...

Upcoming mixtapes from Atlanta...

The Audubon Society

One of the best kept secrets in the ATL. You might have seen them around town. They just played the Earl this past Friday night with Collective Efforts, Supastition, Kaze, and Floyd Da Locsmif.

They've held it down at The Royal for F'in Socialites parties as well as at Django's. You can also catch them once a month over The Mark. Tune into their myspace page for updated information.

In either case, word on the street is that Mr. Mind and Variable are working on Volume 4 as we speak. That means two mixtapes from the NorthernArc fam (of which I am a proud member- no plugo)...Dj Unknown's "House of Brew's" mixtape is expected to hit late Summer/early Fall as well.

Until then?

Volume 3: "A Society Affair"

Spoke to Spree Wilson late last week and the good word is that the Knives Out MC is working on a Mixtape with Dj Jamad of the Aphilliates.

Wow. Heard it might have some ill conceptual shit to knock us off our feet. I cannot wait to see what those brothers have in store for us.

Heard anything else about the Atlanta music scene latley? Hit me up and we can talk about it. I don't care if it's Rock, Reggae, Folk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Blues, Electronic or whatever...

This week we are going to talk about Daryl Reeves (since I didn't manage to last week), Clan Destined, Buff1, Days Ahead, and Snowden.
